A word from Paul :
Anyone that missed Paul's art that he did some time back for New York rap artists Necro and his brother Ill Bill, check it out here again for the first time. One of the most popular booths attended at Comicon this year was the new upstart company Radical Publishing. And also, one of the upcoming new titles that created quite a buzz is a World War Two epic entitled TIME BOMB created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray.A number of artists were considered and we're thrilled to announce that by popular fan blog and editorial demand the art chores are going to Gulacy. "I'm really happy to be part of this considering I've been trying get a war comic going for quite some time. In fact, a year ago Bob Burden and I pitched a terriffic World War two story that involved Captain America and Nick Fury in post war China to Marvel but nobody bit, so, it looks like Radical gets to shine. I'm coming in with both barrels, so to speak. The TIME BOMB storyline is awesome. Very cinematic." And anyone in the vicinity of Malaga, Spain, November 17th to the 21st 2009, be sure to visit Paul at the Malaga Comic Festival. All sangria is on the house! |

Hi Matt! Paul just confirmed that he is doing 11 pages of art for Cable # 21 due out on December 2nd. Regarding Renaud's comment about other cameo appearances by Paul in comics, I don't know of any others...although I suppose there could be some. It was funny how I noticed Paul's drawing of himself in Marvel Comics Presents # 29 on page 20 in the 6th panel. I actually own the original art page from that Coldblood story & in the larger-size format of the artwork, I noticed that the pedestrian crossing the street who is giving Coldblood the "thunbs up" sign was Paul. That's hilarious. I didn't even notice it at first, but that's him! We'll have to keep an eye peeled for other possible cameos. Dave |

Hi Matt! Paul has produced another great piece of Wonder Woman art (see attached scan) for a charity auction at the upcoming Wonder Woman Day IV in Portland, Oregon on October 25, 2009. The event is being held at Excalibur Comics in Portland. Paul will also be signing autographs that day. In fact, his art is featured on the promotional poster for this special Wonder Woman event (see 2nd attached scan). Dave |

Hi Matt Has anyone else picked up Cable # 18 which came out last week? It continues the storyline from the 2 issues that Paul did in Cable # 16 & 17. Interestingly, Marvel found an artist (Gabriel Guzman) whose art style is very similar to Paul's. I almost did a double-take when I was first reading the story...just to make sure that it wasn't Paul's art. While somewhat similar, the art is not as detailed as Paul's and it doesn't have the multi-panel layouts of a scene that Paul often uses. Still, it was a good enjoyable story. Gabriel Guzman is also scheduled to illustrate Cable issues # 19 & 20. Check it out. Dave |

A word from Paul :
| Greetings All, Well, I had better get in here before Matt throws a fit. I know it's been forever for me to get in here myself and give an update and I apologize. It's a good idea for anyone just dropping in for the first time or for a while and surfing about has to realize that this site exists on a wing and a prayer. On top of us both putting long hours on our own jobs, we also have familes to tend to. It's really a miracle that this site exists at all particularly, when we both live in different countries and I don't speak French. Thank God Matt has a English Pocket Pal. Nevertheless, we're still working it. Hats off as to usual to contributers Beth Brozinski, Renaud Lefebvre and Dave Lemieux who entusiastically always pitch in. And by the way, I've visited other sites and I've come to the conclusion that quality of content will always trump fancy bells and whistles. Anyhoo, now, frankly as i sit, I'm a little reluctant to disclose any new information on current projects because much of it is in negotiation and developement. When the time comes I'll spill the beans. Right now this is what is slated: Creator-owned comic ideas being pitched to Dark Horse written by my old partner Doug Moench. Also being scheduled are Creepy horror stories again through Dark Horse. Creator-owned properties being presented to IDW,Vertigo/DC and Wildstorm. Waiting word from Marvel on more Cable books, a Wolverine/Wendigo one shot in the process of being wrapped up and another Jonah Hex beginning late September. Illustrations for a book on professional golf. In there somewhere i have to wash my car. When I get the heads up, it'll all be announced asap. Much is up in the air at this time. Before I come to a close, let's give a big, warm congratulations to Matt who recenty married his lovely girlfriend Anne-Sophie and announced that another baby is on it's way. Now this site will really look lousy. Just kidding! Again, those of you who are interested in any commission work, please don't hesitate to contact me. I have four parties ahead of you but it would'nt hurt to get in line. I do get time in between projects once in a while. If you're after original art, do drop by www.comicarthouse.com Cheers, Paul "I don't know where I'm going, but I know where I've been." |

Beth's column for august |
If Boobs Are So Bad, Why Do I Love Them So Much? Beth Delaney www.edelaney.com Obscenity laws are nothing new when it comes to entertainment or more specifically comic books. There was the dreaded Comics Code which still exists but largely gets ignored. This Wednesday, instead of just getting to enjoy the new shipment of shiny books, the owner of my shop said a local politician is up in arms about pornography being sold at a convenience store and she's going to try to ban it. This immediately made me concerned for the sake of the comics. Let's face it, comics take a beating when it comes to the feminist nazis out there. God forbid show a powerful woman who kicks ass but is wearing fishnets, the world just might end and all women will be back in the kitchen barefoot. It has always boggled my mind that sensual images of the female body are considered demeaning. I simply don't understand it and I've tried to. Powerful names like Oprah Winfrey and corporations like Dove tell girls to be proud of their bodies; so why is it shameful to show them off? Why is it harmful to want to look like a picture on a page? Is this problem really absent if the reader has a penis? The old advertisements in comic books promised boys they could be muscular and strong for just a couple dollars of investment in a program or product. I'm pretty sure there are still plenty of scrawny comic fans today that wouldn't mind bulking up. Perhaps the difference is that now the pale thin look of Fall Out Boy is popular enough to quell the attack on the male self esteem whereas female readers are too weak minded to be proud of their figures. A perfect example of the outcome of one person bitching about magazine covers is from last spring when I was doing my weekly grocery shopping. I turned into Rage Kitty a might quick when I saw that the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue was covered with a black plastic guard while Shape, Mind & Body, Muscle & Fitness, and Cosmo were right where they always are, at child-eye level. My heart raced and pounded. My fury was enough to give Hulk a run for his money. Someone please explain to me why the Swimsuit Issue is offense? Well, my weak female mind hopes that such legislation will get laughed at and that I won't have anything to worry about. I will be staging a large coup if someone tries to ban the sale of comics with scantily clad female characters in my town. |

Beth's column for july |
Politics in Recent Comics Beth Delaney www.edelaney.com As much as I love Marvel Editor Tom Brevoort, I have a bone to pick with him and others who feel the need to thrust their personal political viewpoints into comics. In particular, I'm referring to the death and rebirth of Captain America. Was the death symbolic? Indeed it was. Does it need to reflect someone personal agenda that the American government under President G.W. Bush was allegedly driving our country purposefully into economic crisis? No it does not. Nor does this month's hint at "rebirth" with July's promise of Cap: Reborn need to forcibly, "...reflect today's feeling of positivity [and] a world in which we want to believe in heroes again, that good men can triumph and that we can be our own better selves." (Brevoort's words from Marvel.com). I want to meet Brevoort and writer Ed Brubaker and express how much it hurt me personally to see the death of Captain America. It's just a comic book and on that day, I cried. I cried not only because of the artwork showing Cap's flag-inspired costume being shot down like a dog while he was on trial for Treason; but I cried because I had to go home and see my husband's reaction to his all time favorite hero since he was little boy. This same political agenda is forced down my throat by another one of my personal favorite creators, Alex Ross. I love his work and can't get enough of it. I truly think he's an icon to the industry. However, his Black Terror series with Dynamite Entertainment (a spinoff of Project Superpowers), did not even veil his contempt of the former President nor his religious zeal for President Obama. Black Terror is a glorious comic book, don't get me wrong. It's written very well, especially issue #2. And of course the art under the direction of Ross, is superior to many books on the shelves. Yet, the past couple of years of comics, I really felt like I was being preached to by the Cult of Obama Archbishops within the Dioceses of Comic Books. As a fan and critic, I can recommend both Captain America and Black Terror, but as a freedom-loving American who happens to read comics, I'm over them. |

Beth's column for june |
The Hazards of Costumed Citizens Beth Delaney It pains me to think that something which has become a major part of my life, comics and costuming, has gone down a dark road with a lot of potential for people to get hurt. I'm talking about this phenomenon called Real Life Super Heroes (RLSH) where average people dress up in their costumes and patrol the streets of their cities. I have so many problems with this that my head is about to explode thinking about it. You are not the Twilight Guardian, Batman or Captain America. You are a regular human being with limitations. Is it a noble idea to want to better your community? Sure it is. However, this is not a comic book, People. This is real life where you do not have Batman's superior martial arts skills and intelligence. You do not possess the protection of a rock hard exterior like Thing. You can't phase through a wall like Shadowcat. Let me express that I do completely support using a superhero identity to help with charity events (I do plenty of this myself), school programs, reading programs at libraries, and all of the options that exist where no one is in harm's way. I come from a family that is very community-minded. I think it is extremely important for everyone to do what they can to make their neighborhoods better. However, there are professionals in law enforcement that you have to consider and for everyone's sake, I hope you do. Picture a cop coming upon a scene that was only described by Dispatch as being a disturbance or fight. He gets to the scene and sees someone with a covered face and a tactical belt filled with unknown items. That person is going toe to toe with a guy wearing jeans, a tank top and has a bandana on his head. The cop has no idea that Lord Darkity Dark of Justice is "the good guy." If that cop has to deal with the distraction of a costumed "hero" that takes focus of the other individual. Now if you take the worst case scenario, where the cop draws a gun and someone gets shot - well, that will ruin his life in terms of guilt, desk duty, years of therapy, and a possible loss of income not to mention being sued (which happens all the time) for not using his best judgment. The following is an excerpt taken from the worldwide registry of these so called superheroes who post every bit of media attention on their website: http://www.wpix.com/news/local/wpix-super-heroes-help-poor,0,7128849.story (The gang hits the streets of New York to help less fortunate people by Vanessa Tyler, wpix.com Staff reporter - May 14, 2009) The "Dark Guardian" has made it his mission to rid Washington Square Park of drug dealers and some have even confronted him. He says, "We've had people flash a gun at us. But I'm not backing down." To illustrate my point, these "superheroes" claim that they only tote what they are legally allowed within the law and for some that includes devices like pepper spray. Let me explain something: real criminals don't care about your legal pepper spray when they have illegal firearms and possibly a large gang to back them up. People who are like this Dark Guardian or another called Nyx (NJ) who carries mace, a tazer and a baton, are looking for a thrill and looking to get hurt. They are purposefully endangering themselves and causing problems for law enforcement. There are others in this worldwide registry who are recognize the potential for physical danger and limit their activities to delivering goods to the homeless and helping with fundraising for local charities. What other problems is this fad causing? There is talk that more anti-mask laws will be passed. Yep, just like the comics. Most schools and plenty of businesses already have rules in place prohibiting the wearing of face coverings and carrying anything that could be considered a weapon. The Metropolitan Museum of Art wouldn't even allow fans to don their costumes during the Superheroes exhibit they had in 2008 because of the security issues of masks and (fake) weaponry. For another example, the Halloween Parade at my nieces' elementary school has so many rules that it's not even fun; family members are not allowed near their children; the children are herded through a fenced area and parade around the baseball field; no fake weapons, ropes or props are allowed. We live in a time where we are surveilled constantly. Security forces need to identify people for the safety of others and the businesses they work for. While I don't agree with this much surveillance, I certainly do not want the government to remove yet another freedom and one as silly as how a person chooses to dress with the passing of anti-mask laws. Many states have anti-mask laws instituted already, though not well known, because of the times during the civil rights movement and the harmful measures of the KKK. New York has had such a law since 1965 and it has been modified and currently reads: An assemblage in public houses or other places of three or more persons disguised by having their faces painted, discolored, colored or concealed, is unlawful, and every individual so disguised, present thereat, is guilty of a misdemeanor; but nothing contained in this section shall be construed as prohibiting any peaceful assemblage for a masquerade or fancy dress ball or entertainment, or any assemblage therefor of persons masked, or as prohibiting the wearing of masks, fancy dresses, or other disguise by persons on their way to or returning from such ball or other entertainment; if, when such masquerade, fancy dress ball or entertainment is held in any of the cities of this state, permission is first obtained from the police authorities in such cities respectively for the holding or giving thereof, under such regulations as may be prescribed by such police authorities.  If you are one of these individuals that claims to be a hero, please take some more time to examine what it is you are doing. If you are helping the homeless, teaching kids to read through the use of comics as a medium, or drawing attention at a charity event, then I applaud you and thank you. If you like helping through first aid, then join a volunteer rescue squad or fire department. If you want to fight criminals, go to the academy, get a badge and kevlar and do the job right. If you just like seeking thrills, then go bungie jumping instead and wear your costume as you jump off the bridge. You'll still make the headlines you so obviously desire. |

Beth's column for may |
The Sociology of the Geeksapien 16-April-2009 Beth Delaney If you're a modern day nerd then you have seen this week's The Big Bang Theory on CBS. This is a show that embraces the different levels of nerdcore from lispy scientists to comic-loving engineers who have a scheduled HALO night. You get it all on Big Bang. This week's episode The Hofstadter Isotope brings the beautiful actress wannabe Penny into the secret sanctum of her nerdy neighbors Leonard, Sheldon, Raj and Howard. When Penny tries to shop at the boys' local comic shop, her mind reaches the brink of exploding out of her cranium. Penny - “Do you think my nephew would like this (comic book)?” Sheldon - “Perfect. He just has to be familiar with Infinite Crisis, 52, Countdown, Final Crisis and the re-emergence of the multiverse.” Penny - “What’s the Multiverse?” At which point Sheldon turns to Leonard and orders that Penny be removed immediately. But Sheldon has a valid point. How can a person buy a comic related gift for someone else? How can someone who has been away from comics for years return? Luckily, with access to places like Wikipedia and ComicVine.com, it's not so hard to get caught up. When it comes to gift giving comics, there's a detailed interview process involved. As a comic shop girl, I try to help a lot of people looking for gifts when the shoppers themselves have no clue. I think they assume all comics are Spider-man and that there are no other choices. I ask them the usual line of questioning: I need a gift for my friend. Do you know what he likes? No. I just know he likes comics. How about superheroes? Does he like Spider-man or Batman or Superman? I don't know. He saw the movies. Does that help? Did he like the movies? I don't know What about zombies? We have lots of zombies. Ummm... Horror? I don't know. Maybe. Westerns? They make westerns? Like Clint Eastwood? Well, I think it's cool but he wouldn't. Something more gritty? I'm not sure. I suppose. Does he have Watchmen? If not, take this. Their eyes glaze over and start to roll back like the membrane of a shark's eyes when turned upside-down. And that's pretty much how it happens. Now I'm not taking credit for Watchmen still being the number one best-selling graphic novel on the New York Times list but sometimes, there's nothing else to go on when people are shopping cold for someone else. There are also non-book gifts to consider. Oodles of merchandising from floor to ceiling are in most comic shops. Very often it's the price factor that keeps people from giving a 24" Thor statue or even a $50 video game. If you're in the other situation where you love comics but have been out of it for a while, then you could delve into the world of podcasting to get different perspectives of what's hot and what's interesting. My favorite above all is Comic Geek Speak and their various spin-offs like World of Toys and Exploring Bede. (comicgeekspeak.com) Plus, for bantering back and forth with other fans, there are forums for just about everything pop culture related. I had the pleasure of hanging out with the CGS hosts and other podcasters during the spring sale at Wild Pig Comics in NJ. Mind you I was dressed as Marvel's Firestar at the time. One of them asked me an interesting question: do a lot of guys talk me to death or are they all afraid of me because I'm a girl at a comic shop? It was a good question. Truth be told, what happens is that I try to talk to a lot of people but instead what happens is only a few can be distracted from a 50% off sale and that's usually because they simply need to come up for air. I feel like I have to initiate the conversation and since I'm a comic noob, I probably get that glazed over look that I usually give to non-nerd customers. Now, if you happen to be from one of the other points of view, say perhaps you're like Big Bang's Raj who can't talk to girls without the aid of alcohol to dull your teflon emotional shields, then head over to the Girls Entertainment Network (girlsentertainmentnetwork.com). No, it's not porn for geeks. It's a site where the contributing writers are girls who cover gaming, comics, television, movies, and gadgets. If typing to pretty girls about Dark Reign is easier than trying to talk to one of these elusive creatures at a con, then register at the site and also on their forums. Be prepared to be pwnd, however - most of them are fearless and I'm not saying that because I'm their new fledging. Even I find them intimidating, but the truth is the GEN girls are sweet and well-informed. Above all, they are fans too. A very similar site is MyNerdGirl.com. Same premise - nerdy girls online typing about their favorite episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or the latest gadget tech and a gorgeous photo gallery of featured femme fatales who are obsessed with horror movies and attend Fangoria. |

Beth's column for march |
Living Out a Fantasy by Beth Delaney There are a couple of shows on TV where average people are given the chance to live out their "character fantasy." It could be anything like a stay-at-home mom who dreams of being a burlesque dancer to an accountant that's always wanted to try extreme sports. Considering how much stresses we have these days, I have come to appreciate putting fantasies into practice. Usually as soon as the word "fantasy" is mentioned people's minds head right into the gutters. Please. That's not it at all. If you have something missing from your life, chances are you daydream about being someone else or at least somewhere else. For children, it's so easy. They probably don't understand why adults no longer PLAY. We should play. As a child, Playing Pretend was right up there with Playing School for me on things I enjoyed. I loved it. My cousin and I would pretend to be members of the Superfriends and fly around his backyard, climbing over the swingset and landing forcefully. Adding that to my mother's talents for costume making and it's no surprise that eventually I found my way into adult superhero costuming and modeling. Okay, so I'm not a "real model." I don't get paid and I'm not 100 pounds. Nonetheless, I don my supersuits and volunteer to make appearances at NJ comic book shops and fundraisers. Through the networking opportunities at Model Mayhem's website, I even found a local photographer that is giving me professional pictures of my supersuits - something I've always dreamed about. Our first photoshoot was on a beautiful and chilly Thursday morning at his studio. I knew there was more to modeling than just finding an attractive subject and pointing a camera at it. We spent more time on test shots to get the fabrics properly lit than actual finished posed shots. When it came to the posed shots, it's a good thing I had two pilates classes that week because trying to stand still with hips rotated, back arched and bust out while standing tippy-toed balancing on a wire box that was about to be crushed by weight left me fatigued from the challenge. Sound uncomfortable? It was but I'm sure it'll make a great shot. Beth's column for February |
The battle for the superhero video game has begun! For years now, City of Heroes/Villains (CoX)
has been the only MMORPG on the market. Then there was development of a Marvel game and to top it off, it was going
to be developed by the same company as CoX , Cryptic Studios which had to sell off part of their joint venture so that
NC Soft could go back out on their own to continue the distributing and any new development of CoX. Cryptic and Marvel d
idn't last too long before pulling the plug on their Marvel MMO. Shortly thereafter, the superhero tabletop RPG Champions decided to get in on the act. Cryptic took the work they had done on Marvel and CoX (some of the CoX developers went with Cryptic after the split) and have begun the Champions Online game. After viewing one of the four demos at NYCC, I wasn't very impressed. It's not bad just doesn't look as good as CoX or even as good as the DC Comics Universe Online which is barely off the ground. However, it's completely understandable that by issue 14, CoX has had many years of development and feedback to get things this far along in pleasing finicky gamers. Speaking of DCUO, their demos won't show too much at this point but there is some gameplay to sample. They are far from beta testing at this point while Champions is already issuing beta invitations publicly. To fill you in, you will be creating an original character which has opportunities to interact with DC characters; so, NO, you cannot be Batman. There's a different approach to the interaction with the NPCs - depending on how you act with your character, it will alter how they respond to you. For example, if Batman does give you instructions and you don't follow it, he will be a bastard to you next time! World of Warcraft certainly isn't going anywhere either but if fantasy/medieval isn't your thing, why play it? With DCUO a long way off, Champions might pick up a small sliver of the MMO marketplace; however, for 2009, City of Heroes/Villains will still be the top comic book themed MMO. If the MMO community isn't where your game is, then by all means, DC vs. Mortal Kombat and Marvel Ultimate Alliance are still out there. |

Friends,
Romans and fellow geeks, Let me finally get in here and say a few words. It's been a while since any update because of major intense remodeling taking place at our home. That would be me and my new wife Nanci that I married back in December. She was the gal in the photo with me posted under Photos for quite some time. A new pic is up with more to follow. Many of you have been inquiring what my new projects are and as of now to start with I'll be taking a break from any commission work for the time being. I want to thank everybody who made contact requests and I will announce down the line when I'm able to get back to doing more. It was a lot of fun. Okay, new projects -- Right now as I sit, we have a Jonah Hex in the can that should be out very shortly written by Jimmy Palmiotti. I'm swinging over to Marvel to work on two issues of Cable. That would be issues #16 and #17 with the prospect of continuing on the series. Editor Axel Alonso also wants a Wolverine one-shot in there somewhere. Another iron in the fire is a Black Widow mini series being pitched by Jimmy P. There are also discussions going on with Mike Richardson for a new Crimson Empire series. All of this is swirling around and we'll have to wait and see what happens. You'll be the first to know. While I'm at it , I want to let all you know that if you ever get the chance, make sure that you drop into the Boston Con. Nanci and I had a wonderful time in a great town with awesome hosts, venue and terrific fans earlier this month. They truely keep the torch lit with fired up enthusiasm for the industry. We would go back in a minute. Lastly, I want to thank all contributers - Renaud, Dave Lemieux, Beth Grosinski, Grace Randolph, Roger and my man Matt over there in France whom without him this thing would never exist. Hail to the webmaster chief! See ya soon, Paul |

Subject : Gulacy What If... thanks very much, I look forward to reading more about “Serpent’s Tooth.” I thought that was a great series, even if Gulacy made Bond look more like Ronald Reagan than Timothy Dalton… Also, it is probably impossible for legal reasons, but I still hope that one day there will be a James Bond/Batman story by Doug Moench and Paul Gulacy. Not very likely, I know, but with comics the way they are these days, I try to remain hopeful. Best, Jim |

Hi Matt I just talked with Paul yesterday & he hasn't heard anything about the status of the Nowhere Man comic since Virgin Comics was bought out by Liquid Comics on Setember 24, 2008. Paul did clarify for me that he completed a cover only for issue # 0, but no actual artwork for the 16 page story before the plug was pulled. Previews reported back in August of 2008 that Marko Djurdjevic had done the cover, so 1 of these covers was most likely going to have been a variant cover. That's all we know. I'll keep you posted. Also, I just found a British website called MI6 which is devoted to James Bond comics & films that has comprehensive reviews of all 3 Serpent's Tooth issues by Doug Moench & Paul. The reviews were conducted in 2005 and they provide a fairly in-depth analysis of Paul's artwork, cover design and storytelling technique on each issue as well as summarizing the plots of the individual books. Lots of color art too. It's worth a lot. These reviews can be found at : - www.mi6.co.uk/sections/comics/st1_review.php3, - www.mi6.co.uk/sections/comics/st2_review.php3, - and www.mi6.co.uk/sections/comics/st3_review.php3. Talk with you soon, Matt! Dave Hi Matt Here's an update. Moonstone Books and Captain Action Enterprises are now producing the Paul Gulacy Captain Action # 0 retro t-shirt in 8 different colors. Attached is a scan of the t-shirt in "royal blue". These t-shirts are available to order at www.cafepress.com/cptaction. The Paul Gulacy Captain Action # 0 mousepad is also still available. Beth's column for January |
Asia on Ice
by Beth Delaney It's the launch of comic con season starting with New York in February for 2009. For fans traveling out in the bitter cold, this is the first opportunity of the year to get insight from the publishers about the biggest news in crises, invasions, overlords and resurrections. Time to get out your winterized Batsuits because this is no time for spandex! That won't stop the die-hard costumers though – they sacrifice comfort for this one weekend a year at the Javits Center. Last year, a considerable amount of NYCC attendees remarked about the huge increase in Japanese anime and manga fans. Some traditional comic fans felt a little threatened that their con was being overtaken. How can you blame them when a few months after NYCC is the NY Anime Fest? Basically, you have to suck it up. NYCC is more than American comics these days. There's plenty of infiltration going on whether it's movies or video gaming not to mention the hugely popular RPG arena. DC Comics has certainly embraced the philosophy of “crossing over” from making their Batman RIP event hit almost every title to crossing into other media like DC vs. Mortal Kombat in console gaming and the just-about-ready-to-launch DCU Online MMO; The Batman has also been seduced into scene with the manga series Death Mask and the hugely successful animated movie Gotham Knight. So focus your chi and get ready to explore some of Japan. Since it's the bitter cold days of winter just weeks before NYCC, get into the spirit by finding out about the Sapporo Snow Festival in Hokkaido. If you're interested in actually experiencing the wonder of the land that gave us Godzilla and Hello Kitty, then the Cold Steel Tour might be just the thing for you. It runs January 30-February 7, 2009 through Pop Japan Travel (http://www.popjapantravel.com/tours/13/Cold_Steel_Tour_2009). The Sapporo Snow Festival is part of that tour. The main attraction is the showcase of ice and snow architectural sculptures but there are also competitions where you can see characters like Nemo or Lilo & Stitch in the snow. They even build large slides of ice for those that want to put their snowpants to good use. While you're there, you can get your drink on at the Bailey's Irish Cream ice bar, as long as you can tolerate sitting on barstools made of ice, have yours on the rocks for good measure. And if that's not enough ice for you hop on over to China for the Harbin Ice Festival where they kick it up a notch and illuminate their fantastical ice sculptures with a rainbow of colors. For a great glimpse of the creativity check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy9Sy5pZTFY But for those of you stuck on the East Coast of the good ol' US of A, there is NYCC rapidly approaching. And if you want to really brave more ice, visit Mt. Holly, New Jersey for the Fire & Ice Festival featuring a chili contest and ice sculptures: http://fireandicefestival.com/ Last year's 1st Place winner in the Amateur contest, Nick Ziegler, sculpted one of the Star Trek Enterprises. |

Beth's column for October |
||||||||||||||||||||
Mag-nificent Coverage By Beth Delaney Comic book fans have a multitude of outlets from which to glean information about their favorite characters, creators and franchises. Not so long ago, it seemed like I got most of my gossip needs online through columnists but I quickly discovered other outlets. I got hooked on Wizard Magazine and the Comic Geek Speak podcast. Podcasting alone has served me with daily entertainment not only CGS but also Comic News Insider, Alternate Reality, Comics Coast to Coast and others. Expanding my magazine subscriptions, along came Comics Now! Magazine published by podcaster and Master Geek Bryan Deemer with Comics Media Partners. Comics Now! just put out Issue #3 and is getting stronger each time. If you like in-depth accounts of DC or Marvel crises then this is perfect for you. Comic Foundry was something I heard about at a convention where they had a booth. I saw Matt Fraction on the cover (now he’s a regular columnist) and got curious but didn’t commit to purchasing it at the time. Then I saw G4TV’s darling yet raunchy Olivia Munn plug her appearance in the mag and wanted to get my hands on it even more. Diamond was unable to obtain that particular issue for me but October’s edition finally made its way into my pull box. Below is a simple comparison of my top three magazine choices for comics to help you decided if any are right for you:

| Hi Matt Here's the latest news from Desperado Publishing: The Sabre 30th Anniversary HC Edition will be released on November 30, 2008. As you may recall, Paul did a new cover for this book....which was posted earlier on the Gulacy website in b&w. Don McGregor is also writing a new Introduction to the book regarding how he and Paul created the character of Sabre. Secondly, Virgin Comics was bought out by Liquid Comics on September 24, 2008. It was reported that Liquid Comics plans to publish many of the previously announced Virgin Comics projects. Hopefully, Nowhere Man by Hugh Jackman, Marc Guggenheim & Paul Gulacy will be one of those published projects. Paul completed issue # 0 of Nowhere Man which will be a special 16 page preview of the series. Liquid Comics will be announcing shortly which comics will be published. That's all this time. Dave |

Beth's column for August |
Gaming Music Tour: Video Games Live Concert Series By Beth Delaney Due to the wonder of G4TV and learning how to use RSS feeds in my beloved FriendFeed (http://friendfeed.com/elizabethamber) which kicks Twitter’s ass – I have come to learn about this wild concert tour called Video Games Live (videogameslive.com). I admit, I’m not a “gamer.” I play one game: City of Heroes and that’s it. I did my share of 80s gaming as a kid with my brothers’ Atari systems. Bearing that in mind, 80s game music was high-pitched midi noise that could make a dog’s ears bleed. Today’s gaming experience doesn’t even resemble what I played or heard before. Games today have full soundtracks and some like Guitar Hero and Rock Band have “real” music by “real” bands (ie, bands whose music you know and can actually buy). Besides the music-centric games, virtual wonders like Prince of Persia and Final Fantasy have musical scores that are worthy of Oscar noms in the same vain as any blockbuster movie soundtrack. If you consider the musical background to be an essential part of your gaming experience, you should check out the Video Games Live concert tour. Chances are the ensemble is hitting a city near you. This is a worldwide tour including Portugal, England and Brazil plus many more. Many of the shows are already sold out. There are also a handful of 2009 dates announced too. In December the tour is coming to New Jersey and definitely seems like a great way to end 2008 (check out the NJ PAC in Newark). The VGL: Volume One album has done well on Billboard’s Top 10 chart in the Classical Crossover Album category. On August 9, it hit #10. Not bad for an album with gaming soundtracks! |

Beth's column for July |
It’s July and the temperature in NJ is reaching 100.
It’s horrible weather to be outside. What do you do instead? Watch TV of course. Tanning gives
you wrinkles anyway and skin cancer. Here are some things that should keep you a bit busy: * G4TV – Right now, G4TV is providing lots of coverage of the big E3 convention to be followed by San Diego Comic-Con coverage. They also have some excellent shows and movies including Code Monkeys and King of Kong (the story of two men battling for the Donkey Kong world record); plus there’s the daily news program Attack of the Show which really is the only news you need to know. * The History Channel – Batman Unmasked: The Psychology of the Dark Knight. This is an excellent documentary about the psychology of the characters in the Batverse. Dave just sent me that :
| Hi Matt In regard to Mike Coty's question, Paul only did a cover (& what a great one it was of the Rook at the Alamo) for Warren Presents # 2. That's all. I've looked into this in the past myself. However, I did find out an interesting piece of information. Paul had completed a 20 page story for "The Rook magazine" # 1 by Warren Publishing in 1979 (written by Bill Dubay) that was never used. It was later redrawn by Lee Elias for use in that issue. The story was titled "The Original Master of Time". I sure wish we could have seen Paul's version of that story. I hope this helps. Dave |

This month I rave about a website that I heard about on
G4TV a month ago. They had reported on hulu.com going into beta
testing back then. Well, the month is over and the service is now launched. It's not at all
like YouTube which is a common misconception. At hulu, you can watch
full LEGAL episodes of shows and full movies in really good quality. You don't even
need to register but if you choose to, it helps to build yourself a nice playlist. The site tested with contracts from NBC and FOX so at first it might not seem like there's a lot going on there but I know there's a good amount of my favorites up including: Bones, Monk, Psych, American Dad and Gordon Ramsey (the British chef that I have a new addiction for). It could be really quite dangerous for those of you in offices with high speed internet access. Boy, I used to waste a lot of hours on the message boards back then; I can't imagine how long it would have taken for me to get caught with something this awesome at my fingertips. HULU also has interesting features. You can view clips - some of the shows and movies uploaded right now only have clips available. They only had so many interns to get things up and running. Users can also define clips themselves and take the code and embed it, email it, whatever! What's great about a site like this is that shows that you enjoyed but only got a few episodes are up there! Plus there's some television history too like Hart to Hart and Fantasy Island. The site is ad supported but that's only 25% of the ads you'd see on TV. There's even a countdown on the top banner of the video showing you a countdown for when the ad will be over. And some have an option of watching a two minute trailer once at the beginning then run the show commercial free. |

Comics Now! Magazine
Editor: Bryan Deemer
Reviewed by Beth Delaney It’s like a dream come true when a fan follows the noble path in pursuit of being a part of the comics industry. Such was the case for Bryan Deemer who has been known for years as one of the resident Geeks of the podcast Comic Geek Speak, a show I will never miss. As if he’s a mild mannered journalist by day and cape wearing superhero by night, Deemer made time this past year to spread his wings from the high tech world of podcasting to the more old fashioned form of journalism when he started his very own magazine, Comics Now! Toting an average magazine cover price of $5.99, Comics Now! issue one hit the shelves a few weeks ago and impressed everyone who was lucky enough to find it. Issue one flew off the shelves and readers were excited enough to share the news about this new periodical that some even left their copies in the comic shops just so others could get a glimpse and place their own back orders. This magazine includes very lengthy articles on Marvel’s character Nova and DC’s history of crises. These are the kinds of details that are absent in the shallow pages of other industry periodicals. There are plenty of short articles that can fill time while you read on your lunch break too. Plus, with Deemer’s connections to the many creators he has interviewed as part of the CGS podcasts, gorgeous cover art is a sure thing. Issue one splashes a flying Nova by Jun Bob Kim; issue two will have a gang of super villains; and issue three will showcase Superman. Comics Now! plans to stand out on its own as a resource for comics fans and should not have a difficult time doing so. Links: Comics Now! Check out Beth's columns for February...
Beth's column |
I remember an episode of The King of Queens
where Deacon was panicking because he couldn’t find a good black superhero costume for his little
boy Kirby. He gets disappointed thinking Darth Vader is the closest one available because Vader was
voiced by James Earl Jones but not actually played by him. Incidentally little Kirby wanted to be
a Powerpuff Girl. But anyway, it is true that there aren’t readily available costumes for a black
child in that situation and by God, there should be! It got me to thinking that February is indeed
Black History Month and so we should take a moment in our comic book reading to honor the black
superheroes we have grown to know and love over the decades. I picked up the Marvel one-shot on Patriot in Young Avengers Presents #1 which came out just a couple Wednesdays ago. It’s a good reminder that there was a black Captain America in comics history. According to the Captain America wiki style entry at ComicVine.com, the black super soldier was Isaiah Bradley who first appeared in 2003. Like Steve Rogers, he was bulked up with the super soldier serum through Project: Rebirth. Three hundred test subjects were all African-American. As part of the storyline, the public was told that all but three of the super soldiers were killed by the Axis powers. To be persnickety, Isaiah was never given the name Captain America since Steve’s Cap existed at the same time, but he was in a similar costume and fighting the good fight for this country. Isaiah is the grandfather of Elijah who is now the Young Avengers member known as Patriot. Referencing the wonderful website of the Museum of Black Superheroes (http://www.blacksuperhero.com), there’s a user-friendly way to look up heroes from Marvel, DC, Image and Milestone as well appearances in TV, film and video games. There may be some reader interpretation as to “how black a black character is” giving that Black Adam, an Egyptian man is on their list of black DC superheroes. I wouldn’t have put Black Adam on this list but I supposed “dark” or “Mid-Eastern” has it’s bearings on this radar to some. To me, the first character of the DC universe that comes to mind is my favorite Green Lantern, John Stewart. Everyone says Hal Jordan when asked which GL is their favorite, but me, I know Stewart because I love the Justice League cartoons. I also love his history as a US Marine. There’s an episode in the JL series where John’s ring is out of juice and he has to rely on his old Marine skills to get him through the battles and still save other people. When the series expanded to Justice League Unlimited, viewers also introduced to Mr. Terrific, the only super genius human who can be a substitute for Martian Manhunter up in the Watchtower. Other well known characters in the DCU are Steel and his niece Natasha, Cyborg from Teen Titans and Bumblebee. Crossing the rift to Marvel, X-Men’s noble character Storm is the first one I think of and the fact that she’s a powerful female as well just makes her even better in my opinion. Too bad she doesn’t get a lot of the attention in storylines that she deserves. Recently, Storm became a little more apparent when she wed another strong black character, the Black Panther which has escalated her to a Queen in Wakanda. The diverse population of the X-Men has always allowed for storylines addressing racism in the form of mutantism, but at the heart, there are figures who have to deal with both. Besides Storm, another very popular character of that universe is Bishop, the black mutant known for his “M” tattoo that was branded on him in a mutant relocation camp. Marvel’s Civil War and aftermath thereof gave readers an inside look at vigilante fighter Luke Cage (formerly known as Power Man). We got to see Cage inside his home with his family where he worried about very real dangers on a more local level as opposed to the global war other superheroes faced. According to imdb.com, Tyrese Gibson is possibly slated to play Cage in an upcoming film directed by renown director John Singleton; rumors have also circulated that Cage may be played instead by Michael Jai White who played Spawn in the film adaptation of that character and has voiced several characters from Doomsday in JL to Osebo in Static Shock. Luke Cage also touched the heart of actor Nicolas Cage who changed his Hollywood-heavy Coppola last name to that of a character he thought of fondly. So getting back to having costuming options available for black children, we can start with a basic list of fan favorites: John Stewart/GL, Static Shock/Virgil Hawkins, Patriot and even Spyke (from X-Men Evolution). At the very least, this would introduce families to these characters and bring more African-American readers into our comic book cult of geekdom. |

And now, it's time for the Captain!
Captain Fatman's Corner |
This month's column from Brian James
and Capt. Fat man with Beth is brought to you by the letter K and Crown Royal
Whiskey.
So far the New Year has been going good for the ol'fatman. Myself and Tom the Bearded Wonder went and seen the fabulous David Bromberg play at the Opera House in Wilmington Delaware with Jorma Kaukonen. David has released a new album Try Me One More Time. A great selection of folk music and guitar plucking. If your into folk music or just awesome guitar playing then check out this album it is a must have. The Opera House was a beauty in design and the artwork covering the walls. Also, they had a bar. 3 dollars a beer but considering what they charge at large venues for the sweet nectar of life it is not bad. The show was done all in acoustic guitar. After the show the Fat-man and his drinking buddy Tom went backstage for a nice chat with Bromberg. David is as nice as his guitar playing. Which is phenomenal. David signed some of my old album covers for me and we had our picture taken with him. It was a great night for me; I am a geek at heart and love meeting my idols in the comic world as well as music and movies. Some of my idols I have met over the years I have become good friends with. Believe me if you're a geek like me you'd get a kick out of getting a X-Mas card's from Carmine Infantino, Jim Steranko and other comic legends. Anyway, back to the concert if you live in the Philly, Del, south jersey area and you're in the Wilmington area then check out the opera house you'll be impressed at its beauty and history. I have been immersing myself into X-Files lore since I heard a new movie was being made. Revisiting this show, seasons 1-9, the movie and the Lone Gunmen very short lived series was refreshing amid the lack of good shows on the air now. Of course some episodes weren't great but as a whole the X-Files was a cult classic like the original Night Stalker show with Darren McGavin. One of my all time favorite shows. I can't wait to see how they bring Mulder and Scully back into the FBI and facing monsters and aliens again. I haven't been this excited about a movie coming out since the first Batman film back in 89. I just finished reading DC: The New Frontier by Darwyn Cooke and Dave Stewart. Vol. 1and 2. Now I admit when it first came out as a mini series I never read it. Had no desire to but with the release of the cartoon movie based on it I figured what the hell I'll give it a shot. And boy am I glad I did. It had everything I miss in comics today that was there when I was a kid. It had super suspense and true heroism. Super Hero's doing good and not sullied by today's dark look on life. Get out there and read these books. Yes it is costly 20 bucks a volume but I am sure you can get them cheaper at amazon.com or half.com or check your local library a lot of them have been carrying graphic novels these days. The drink of the month is Alabama Slammer. I had this a couple of days ago. What you need is : 1 ounce of sloe gin 1 ounce of southern comfort 1 ounce of triple sec (non flavored) 1 ounce of Galliano 6 ounces of orange juice Place the booze in a shaker with ice and either pour in a rock glass over ice or do as shots. Either way a couple of these and you'll be feeling them. As always any questions can be sent to askcaptfatman@yahoo.com See you next month |

Here's a few words from Paul :
| Greetings! Happy 2008, everyone. This letter has been long in coming, so, let's cut right to the chase. As I write this, I will soon be wrapping up issue #5 of the Penance: Relentless series. The word is that it will be collected into a trade paperback very soon. Other books you may have missed that I worked on from Dark Horse will also be collected. Those titles include Dark Horse Heroes under the Omnibus line which includes a Barb Wire story I pencilled on the stands now and Terminator: Secondary Objectives also due out very soon. The original cover painting featured on Terminator done in the past will be used once again on this new series I'm told. Also, from Dark Horse, make sure you check out the collected Star Wars Crimson Empire which is now out as a handsome hardbound. A real must for Star Wars fans and a very impressive story penned by Mike Richardson and Randy Stradley. I did the pencils. Recently I teamed up with my old pal Doug Moench on a couple of things of interest. No, we're not teaming up on anything new, but, we are giving everyone an opportunity to see again or for the first time, some stories from the past we've worked on a really cool site called www.wowio.com. Six From Sirius, Sci Spy, and a horror story that will make your skin crawl to name a few. It's worth a look. You'll also find many others of your favorite creators as well. If you want to hear Doug and I take a trip down memory lane and reminisce on our days of working on Master Of Kung Fu in a kick-ass interview, then you'll have to pick up the current issue of BACKISSUE #26. Also included is an array of artwork by your's truly, including Shang Chi, Leiko Woo, Nick Fury, The Yellow Claw and more. If you're down with the spy genre in comics, then jump on this magazine. A tip of the hat and kudos to publisher Mike Eury for giving us the opportunity. Hey, if by some strange quirk of fate you haven't seen Steve "The Dude" Rude's book Art In Motion, you're missing out on a very gorgeous collection of the Dude's finest. He's one of the great ones. Fantastic art, text and narration. If it sounds like I'm doing a lot of pluggin', it's because I am. And I'm not done. People are asking me what's up after Penance. The fact is, I can't tell you. All I can say is that it involves I big name writer and it's for Marvel. I swore an oath to my editor. Those same doggone people are also asking me what conventions perhaps I'll be attending this year. So far, look for me at the Emerald City Con in Seattle on May 10th and 11th and San Diego where after 30 years in the biz, I'm finally a guest. Holy #@%$*, Batman! That's it for now, folks. Before I take off, I want to thank our fine website contributors starting with Roger Clark, Beth, Keif Simon a.k.a. Captain Fatman, Dave Lemieux, Laurie Kronenberg, and Renaud from Quebec, Canada. I also want to give deep thanks to my friend Matt, the gatekeeping Webmaster who makes this site operate and possible. I'm not sure if any of you are aware that Matt lives in France. He knows a little English and I know very little French, but, we manage to make it happen. For what it's worth and what it is, it's the best we can provide from two very busy men. And now one being a new dad. Be sure to send your congratulations to Matt and his wife Anne-Sophie on the birth of their son Paul in November the 14th. lol. I love it! Till next time, be good and don't let the snakes in the grass drag you down. Paul |

Beth's column |
I watch a whole lot of television. I feel the need to
explain that right off the bat. However, I tend to watch things are popular only in certain
circles. I don't watch 24, CSI, or Lost. I gave Lost a chance but the only thing I liked were
the characters which wasn't enough to bring me back week after week. So what does a TV whore
watch when there's a Writers' Guild strike? Even the Golden Globes weren't aired yet they were
awarded. Here are some suggestions to keep yourself occupied this winter: 1. Monk - This is by far my favorite hour-long show on the air today. I was lucky enough to receive the first four seasons on DVD for Yule. The new episodes began on January 11 and run not only in their Friday time slot but again over the weekend a couple of times so any fan should be able to find a time that fits into his/her schedule if you don't have one of those fancy DVRs. 2. Psych - This is another great USA show about the escapades of Shawn and Gus. Shawn grew up with his strict police officer dad who trained him in reading environments and people to seek out the truth. Shawn uses that skill to pretend to be psychic and work as a consultant for the Santa Barbara Police. Gus is Shawn's best friend since they were kids. He is the straight-laced counterpart to Shawn's carefree verve. Gus can cut loose especially when Goldschlager is involved as we have learned from the first episode of this new season. 3. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - It may be too soon to tell if this show has what it takes. After seeing only the first part of the premier on Sunday (the regular time slot is Mondays), the show has a lot of promise. John Conner (Thomas Dekker) is high school age and Cameron Philips (Summer Glau) is a Terminator sent to protect him. Sarah Connor is played by Lena Headey who gives an authentic performance of the character crafted so well by Linda Hamilton. Headey caught my attention as the Queen in Frank Miller's 300. Here she uses an America accent believably and brings a bit of a softer personification of Sarah to the screen. The plot picks up after the second movie. With the franchise making an appearance in comic books now, there may be a decent resurgence of interest. 4. American Dad! - This animated series is a great escape from all the political pressure of the campaigns. Stan Smith is a lovable conservative who draws his CIA-issued pistol every time the doorbell rings. If you're sick of the news, the bickering, the debates and polls and still want to feel some pride in America, then check out American Dad! on FOX. 5. American Idol - I don't know if I'm ready to keep my attention on this show for another season. Typically I don't watch it until all the goofball stuff is over. I don't like it hogs the airwaves and takes up two nights a week. I'm sick of Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. I just want to see the performances of the contestants and not lounge singers from sixty years ago. Plus I'm still bitter that Blake beat out Melinda for the second place spot. |

Captain Action is back!
And now, it's time for the Captain!
Captain Fatman's Corner |
This month's column is brought
to you by the letter R and miller lite beer. Happy New Year boys and girls, Captain Fat-Man here with another column of stupid crap that I feel like boring you with. Brian James is still busy doing god knows what, but I am sure it involves booze and strippers and is illegal in most states. And Beth will be along with real reviews of comics. Now let's get into this months column. First off I saw several movies that I enjoyed. I am Legend with Will Smith, Alvin and the Chipmunks no; I'm Not There the movie about Bob Dylan. Let's go in order. I am Legend has two things going for it. Will Smith and a cool ass German shepared. Set in the future where earth has been infected by a man made virus turning the population into night creatures who feed on flesh. Smith is the last human in New York and with his dog try to survive and find other survivors. I won't go into the story line more then that because I don't want to give anything away but check it out there's a scene in there that broke my heart and if it doesn't bother you then you have no soul. I give legend 5 out of 5 beers. The second movie is Alvin and the furry guys. Great kids movie and if you were a fan of the 80's cartoon you'll get a kick out of this holiday movie. Alvin, Simon and Theodore seem real, more real then some live actors I have seen lately. I give it a 4 out of 5 beers rating. Lastly is I'm Not There 6 different actors portraying a part of Bob Dylan's life while treating them as separate entities with their own names. Cate Blanchett is awesome as the late 60's version of Dylan and the black kid, who I have no idea what his name is, plays a pre teen Dylan who is great and if he really sang them songs look for him in the future he has a knack for folk music. I especially liked the scene where he plays with Richie Havens on a porch. You can't go wrong with Havens. I saw him play at the Philly folk fest years ago and man he is awesome. If you never listened to his music check out a best of album you won't be sorry. I'm Not There is definite 5 out of 5 beers but if you don't like Dylan then don't bother. Music I have been listening to is a bunch of David Bromberg, Arlo Guthrie and his dad Woody Guthrie. Bromberg is my favorite guitarist. Man he can pick a blues or a folk song and just make it sing. David has a new cd out, Try Me One More Time, which has been nominated for a Grammy. I truly hope he wins. Check out his music you'll love him. Any album will do but live he is great check out How late'll play vol 1 or 2 cd. I have mine on album, shows you I am old huh? Arlo Guthrie is a second generation folk singer who's father Woody gave us great song that every school kid knows. Woody's most famous song is probably This Land Is Your Land. Arlo has given us such great classics as Coming into Los Angelis, Alice's Restaurant which is a must listen to every thanksgiving. The best 18 minutes of your holiday. I have listened to this song on thanksgiving since I was in diapers. Arlo also does the definite rendition of Steve Goodman's City of New Orleans. I have seen both Bromberg and Guthrie live in concert many times and I try to see them every chance I get when they are in the area. If you're a fan of folk music or blues you can not go with seeing these guys live at least once. Books I have been reading are American Gunfight by Stephen Hunter. This book is about the attempted assignation of Pres. Truman. On November 1st 1950 by two Puerto Rican natives. A gunfight broke out amongst these men and 3 white house police and one secret service member. Which is even more amazing is all of this is true yet seemed to disappear from the history books. Also I'm reading Woody Guthrie's autobiography Bound for Glory. How he rambled across the country in the twenties and thirties and wrote songs against the treatment of workers and everyday folk during the dust bowl and depression. Comics I am reading besides the usual is Showcase presents Brave and the Bold vol2. Batman team-ups. Seventeen bucks for 500 pages of great comic books is worth every penny with art by Nick Cardy, Neal Adams and Jim Aparo (my favorite batman artist after Carmine Infantino.) The drink of the month is a Lemon Drop 4 ounces of fresh lemon juice 2 shots of vodka 1 teaspoon of sugar 1 sliced lemon 4 sprigs of fresh mint In a shaker pour in lemon juice, vodka and sugar shake until sugar is disolved. Then pour into rock glasses filled with ice garnish with slice of lemon and mint sprigs. Now onto answering some of your questions that you have asked at askcaptfatman@yahoo.com First is from George in Ohio No I am not retarded but yes I do have a drinking problem. The problem is when I can't get my booze on a daily basis. Second is from Karen in Mississippi, Brian James is a real person and one hell of a party animal. You can send him a pair of your panties but I don't think his wife would like it. To the second part of your question Brian's favorite food is sushi. Don't ask me why he just likes that crap. Next question is from mark in New York, Yes I really am fat. My shirt size is balloon. I hate wicker furniture and booths in pizza hut. And yes I will answer a personal question there is a mirror on my bathroom floor in front of my toilet so I can see my wiggy. Now my question to you is why the hell do you want to know that??? The last question for this column is from Alice in Massachusetts, Sorry Alice, but I can't give you the pin number to Brian James debit card because I don't have it. As soon as I get it and take some money to pay my bar tab I'll let you know. That's all for this month kiddies but keep the questions coming |

Dave just sent me that :
| Hi Matt Happy 2008 to you also! I hope you are doing well. By the way, I wrote a 6 page article for Back Issue # 26 (due out on January 16) about Doug Moench & Paul's planned Shang-Chi/Nick Fury crossover in the 1970's which never occurred. It would have been awesome, of course, if it had happened. I included many quotes from both Paul & Doug, and there will be lots of Gulacy art to support the article. It's included under the "Greatest Stories Never Told" category which is a semi-regular Back Issue feature. I had lots of fun writing it & I'm hoping that the readers will enjoy it as well. That issue also includes a NEW "Pro to Pro" interview with Paul & Doug which was conducted by Dan Johnson. It reportedly includes lots of discussion about MOKF. I'm looking forward to that one myself. Dave |

Beth's 2007 Favorites
Cartoon - The Batman, Kids WB - this season the Dark
Knight, Batgirl and Robin team up with familiar faces like The Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Superman.
This year has been quite lacking in the cartoon department. I was a huge fan of The Life and Times
of Juniper Lee, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and The Batman but since others have run
their course, I've got only two solids for 2007: The Batman and Legion of Superheroes from the
31st Century both on the Kids WB Saturday morning lineup. Occasionally I'll wonder back to
Cartoon Network to catch Ben 10 too.
Cartoon episode - Legion of Superheroes from the 31st century "The Man From the Edge of Tomorrow," Part I & II: The team is faced with their most ruthless foe Imperiex; a cloned Superman from the 41st century with different powers than the old Superman (of the 21st century) and has DNA fused with Kryptonite to eliminate his weakness; he joins the team as Kell-El and has to learn how to become a team player; tragedy strikes as Triplicate Girl faces the loss of one of her images and becomes Duo Damsel. Song of Year - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus "Face Down" - Somehow this band took the subject of a woman being abused and by singing from the point of view of another man screaming at the jerkhole responsible, they've pulled off a number one hit. Breakout Band/Artist of the Year - Blue October - There is no "one genre" for this band and in their own words "… shove it under old-new or call it rock or pop or Bach or fuck, Goddamn where did we go wrong, Now there's a category for every song"… Justin Furstenfeld has more range than most rocker male leads which listeners should give a chance; if at first you think he's just screaming because you've caught a few seconds of "Drilled a Wire" (Foiled, 2006) then you need to skip through the tracks to a peppy tune like "Clumsy Card House." Sure, Foiled was released in 2006 but songs like "You Make Me Smile" and "Hate Me" only became featured on mainstream radio in 2007. Lyrics have never been so emotionally moving. For fans of Evanescence to Pearl Jam, Blue October rocked through the airwaves breaking the cult barrier to mainstream acceptance in 2007. Favorite Movie of the Year - Live Free or Die Hard - Having low expectations for a fourth installment of my favorite movie franchise probably helped me love this movie. I had faith in Bruce Willis being able to pull off another rocking Die Hard movie despite his aging body and hair loss. As far as the franchise goes, this one is second best in my book. Regarding Justin Long, this geek has had my attention since Galaxy Quest and Dodgeball. Then he grew up and started breaking geek hearts in his Mac vs. PC commercials where he gives audiences a more intelligent version of Keanu Reeves. If Long can do for his body what Ryan Reynolds did and beef up some muscles, then we may even see him in more of a leading role in a action movie some day rather than plucky nerd sidekick. Best Movie Scene - It's hard not to reward the Weasley twins for their ballsy move in quitting Hogwart's and blasting up the joint in a rebellion against Headmistress Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter & the OotP but the winning scene has to include better explosions and that's why Live Free or Die Hard where McClane (Bruce Willis) and Matthew Farrell (Justin Long) dodge explosions in a traffic jammed tunnel is a memorable moment in 2007. Worst Movie Scene - With three Comics' leading men breaking into dance this was a tough choice but the winner is Peter Parker's piano playing/dance sequence in Spider-Man 3; other contenders included Mary Jane and Harry's cooking/dance sequence to "The Twist" in Spider-Man 3; and let's not forget Mr. Fantastic dancing at his bachelor party in Rise of the Silver Surfer. Best TV Show - USA Network's Monk still holds first place me. Season after season, Tony Shalhoub (Exec. Prod. & star) delivers episodes with unique modus opperandi for murder and mayhem. Mr. Monk and the Man Who Shot Santa was my idea of holiday fun. Other notable shows during the main fall season and the summer/winter breaks that I hate to miss are: Psych, Heroes, Ghost Whisperer, Supernatural, My Name is Earl, Bones, Reaper and Saving Grace. Favorite British Invasion - BBC's drama, Jekyll starring James Nesbitt and featuring Michelle Ryan (Jamie Summers on America's new Bionic Woman). It's amazing how such a small transformation can make someone look completely different. People have joked for decades about how Superman's disguise of eyeglasses and different hairstyle couldn't possibly fool anyone but the truth is, it probably would. The old Spencer Tracy full length feature film of the Jekyll and Hyde story is another example where subtle changes can be the most disturbing. So forget about the CG abomination in Van Helsing and turn to BBC's Jekyll to see how it's really done. Favorite American TV Episode - There are several Monk episodes that featured wonderful guest stars that are memorable TV moments, like Mr. Monk and His Biggest Fan (Sarah Silverman) and Mr. Monk and the Rapper (Snoop Dogg); but for sheer geek factor, Bones' "Mummy in a Maze" gets the honor of favorite episode. The Jeffersonian forensics team with FBI partner Seely Booth dress up for Halloween when a body is discovered in an amusement park maze; the cast are dressed up with some poignant costumes: Bones as Wonder Woman, Cam as Catwoman, Booth as a lab squint, Angela as Cher, Hodgins as the Captain of the Titanic, Zack as the back end of a cow; There's a debate between Bones and Cam as to who would win in a fight, Wonder Woman or Catwoman; then during the final battle with the villain bullets ricochet off Bones' Wonder Woman bracelets and she even gives us a twirl at the end. Best BBC America Episode - Torchwood's "Captain Jack Harkness" which features one of the best man-on-man romantic moments in TV history, it was done with such poetic flare that even the most homophobic people could forget that it's two men kissing. Romance and regret fill this episode to the brink. Best TV Scene - Heroes "The Line" - Fans finally see first hand just how far HRG will go to protect his family when he shoots an old colleague. Best Comic Book Title - Because of its unique style in storytelling and imagery, Mouse Guard is the winner for 2007. David Peterson has created a world so rich and full that it could be considered the comic book version of Tolkien's universe. Other contenders are: The Umbrella Academy, Silver Surfer: Requiem, Superman/Batman, Detective Comics and The Green Lantern Corps. Best Comic Book Issue - The Assassination of Captain America (Captain America no. 25) made headlining news not just on the internet or just in geek communities but in mainstream American media. This was a tragedy that surprised fans and retailers alike. Steve Rogers is gone and Marvel is currently working on his replacement with a new re-designed (and butt-ugly costume) Captain America. My other favorite moment of the year was when Kyle Rayner becomes Parallax and his the story told from his point of view in his Tales from the Sinestro Corps mini-series. Comic Book Artistic Team of the Year - My classic favorites are Terry & Rachel Dodson (Wonder Woman) but their work might not stand out enough to gain the position of Best of 2007. Instead I would reward the team from Detective Comics: Don Kramer, Wayne Faucher, John Kalisz, and Simone Bianchi for their noir style which perfectly accompanies the gritty tales Gotham City as told by Paul Dini. This team is the opposite of the Dodsons when it comes to color and focusing on what makes a panel interesting. They've managed to bring to life scenes that appear black and white but are really full colors by John Kalisz. Maybe it's the amazing b/w covers that trick my mind, but whatever it is, this team has been rocking the tales of Batman all year. Other notables are: Paola Rivera (Mythos: Fantastic Four), Sean Phillips/Arthur Suydam (Marvel Zombies), David Peterson (Mouse Guard) and Eban Ribic (Silver Surfer: Requiem). Comic Book Writer of the Year - I can't be cliché and automatically declare Brubaker the winner just because he killed Captain America. Instead, the winner is a newcomer to the commercial comics scene: Gerard Way with his original series The Umbrella Academy. Way has a deep background in comics and cartooning that most fans never knew of. He is the front man for the alternative punk band My Chemical Romance and comics fans questioned whether there was anything he could possibly bring to comics hiding behind his blackened eyes. Well, surprise, surprise, surprise - Way hooked up with a great team at Dark Horse Comics and has let his imagination tell the tales of some special children who grow up developing their superpowers. According to interviews, he's got enough material to sustain a twelve year lifespan in comics already and that's if he stopped writing and drawing today. His counterpart Gabriel Bá has constantly been compared to Mike Mignola this year and that's not a terrible thing. It's an exaggerated stylization of anatomy, whether human, robot, or gorilla, that makes his work eye-catching and loved by fans. Together they are a great team but it wouldn't be anything but pretty pictures if it wasn't for Way's bizarre story about a family as dysfunctional as my own. Hot Chick of the Year - These are almost too plentiful to choose from. Basing the decision purely on hotness this year's winner is Michelle Ryan (Jekyll, Bionic Woman). Other notables are: Mary Elizabeth Winstead (DeathProof, Live Free or Die Hard), Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), Zooey Deschanel (Bridge to Terabithia, Weeds, Tin Man), and Missy Peregrym (Heroes, Reaper). Hot Guy of the Year - Like the ladies, hot guys were not in short supply this year. Even geeks were hot so they got their own category. The winner for 2007 is Bret Harrison (Reaper). Other contenders: Tobey MacGuire (Spider-Man 3), Chris Evans (F4: Rise of the Silver Surfer), Shia LeBeouf (Transformers), Topher Grace (Spider-Man 3), Orlando Bloom (PoTC 3), Johnny Depp (PoTC 3), James Marsden (Enchanted), and Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes). Hot Geek of Year - It's a tie with James Roday and Dulé Hill both from Psych. Maybe they have no real geek cred yet but their characters Sean and Gus debate over the batmobile, have attended a con where they infiltrated the George Takei camp, and asked fans to submit sketches to their myspaces (yes, the characters of Sean and Gus have myspaces). Plus the new season will bring animated shorts of young Sean and Gus. Other geeks to be loved: Michael Cera (Superbad), Seth Rogan (Superbad), Jon Heder (Blades of Glory), Kevin Pereira (host of G4TV's Attack of the Show), and Tyler Rabine (Reaper). |

Captain Fatman's Corner |
This months column by Brian James
and Capt.Fat-Man with Beautiful Beth is brought to you Grey Goose vodka
and by the letter q. Happy Ho Ho, well it's time to go into debt and get things for people that they really don't want, eat to much cookies and cake and getting ready to party on new years then make resolutions that no one will keep. Christmas is a true family Holiday and this year I bought both my brothers the first 2 seasons of the TV show Titus. Titus is about Chris Titus and his dysfunctional family. A hilarious show and what made it even funnier was it was all based on truth. The show is based on Titus's Norman Rockwell is Bleeding comedy special on Showtime which the comedy channel replays time to time.the series was taken off the air after 3 seasons because it was so over the top and made you think, which made TV executives scared. Episodes were about sexual harassment, abuse in a relationship, schizophrenia, and having to pull the plug due to a coma but it was all done in a way that it was funny as hell but still made you think. Stacy Keach plays Titus father Ken, a 5 time divorced beer drinker who shows his love for his kids by berating them.Zack Ward plays Dave, Titus' brother who is hilarious.I cry from laughing when watching him.A neat little side bar, Zack Ward played the red headed, braces wearing bully in every body's favorite holiday show A Christmas Story. Growing up in a dysfunctional family myself my brothers and I can relate to a lot of the antics in the episodes. If you lived in a household growing up that wasn't like the Brady Bunch you'll get a kick out of the comedy genius of Chris Titus. The box set runs roughly 25 dollars for season 1 and 2. Season three runs about the same. season 3 is just as funny with episodes on suicide, molestation, giving birth. Yes i know, you must think I am a sick bastard for finding humor in these topics. But, if you see the show you will laugh just as much as I did if you even have a shred of light heartiness in your soul. Also this month The Simpson Movie comes out. If you love the show then you'll love the movie and even though the scene with Bart got a lot of publicity that's short scene is nothing compared to the many, many other laugh out loud moments. As with the show, no matter what wacky stuff goes on in Homer and his families life they are a family and stick together at the end. From the beginning credits to the end title this is a pure family pleasure. Now if you are not a fan of the show then don't watch. You'll think it sucks. Mythos:the art of Frank Brunner is out. Frank Brunner, besides being a friend of Paul's and myself, is another comics legend of the 70's with his Dr.Strange stories and who can forget the great Howard the Duck he helped co create.Mythos showcases his work in not only the comic world but also his fantasy work. As a side bar, there's a short interview of Frank in the book by our own Brian James. The art in this book is beautiful and every page just shows off franks talent.A perfect Christmas gift. I'm going to wrap this up early the ice is melting in my vodka gimlet made with Grey Goose Vodka. (there's my advertisement plug) The drink for this month is the Christmas Nutcracker since the musical is shown every holiday i figure the drink would be a perfect fit. The Christmas Nutcracker 2 oz. Amaretto 2 oz. Irish cream 2 oz. Kahlua 2 oz. Vodka Put into a shaker with ice. shake the hell out of those precious liquids and pour into a rock glass with ice. Put on a Dean Martin Christmas albums and relax. This is the time of year to be in the giving mood so stop by your local animal shelter and donate old blankets and sheets to keep our furry friends warm this winter or drop off a bag of dog and cat food to help with feeding them. The people working at those shelters are mostly volunteers and put a lot love into the pets no one wants. Your generosity is always appreciated and welcome there. As always my partners and I can be reached at askcaptfatman@yahoo.com for more info about any topics we mention or drink recipes and party tips. |

Here's a message from Paul :
| Here's Beth's Delaney review |
Superman/Batman #40 Script by Alan Burnett There aren’t too many times that a reader can find a book so captivating that he or she is rendered motionless and speechless. A lot of people feel that way when reading about a crisis situation but it is deemed “feminine” to feel that way about romance or passion and our culture coins phrases like “chick lit” or “chick film” as a way of denoting that the subject matter is appealing only to women and therefore male critics should run screaming. If any of that is true then Superman/Batman issue 40 is some of the best chick lit ever published. Although the story arc continues with a mind-controlled Superman facing off against his finest partner Batman, that part of the story feels secondary to the new love story forming between Batman and Bekka, wife of Orion. Without spoiling too much, Bekka does rescue Batman and reveals what the purpose of Superman’s mind control is; Superman is needed to retrieve Highfather’s staff from the Source Wall which is believed to be a tool that will give Darkseid back his omega powers (coming up in issue #42). Bekka hates her father-in-law Darkseid and her husband consistently leaves her alone. She rescued Batman to find a partner in her quest to keep Darkseid from returning to full power. Batman fans have been used to his obsessive personality since he first appeared in comics. That obsession always seemed to be dark and desperate, circulating around his parents’ murders. Fans have also witnessed Batman in complicated love relationships as well whether with Catwoman or Vicki Vale. However there is something glaringly different about this encounter between The Dark Knight and Bekka. His morals are compromised and for once he is seen as slipping over the edge of the physical and emotional control that he has perfected over the years. Batman throughout history was practically DC’s answer to Star Trek’s Mr. Spock – always in control and always several steps ahead of everyone else. At this point, Batman is questioning himself and longing for the touches of a woman that is not available to him. Readers are left in a captivating moment that will have them either breathless until issue #41 waiting to see what comes next or afraid of it because that means the moment of Batman holding Bekka will end. Highlights: ·Batman is rescued by Bekka and becomes infatuated with her. ·The reason for Superman’s mind-control is revealed. ·Darkseid’s lack of power is discovered and the plot to gain it back it exposed. Rating: 9/10 |

Hey folks Check out these reviews.Every month we'll be adding Keif and Beth on board to give us their takes on comics, movies,tv and much more. Your response is welcome. |
It's the Brianjames and Capt.Fatman
column. BrianJames the Zombie Killer is still on a secret mission for
the goverment so your still stuck with my lame ass. Also this month we
have a new additon to our team. Beautiful Beth will be reviewing recent
comics hitting the shelves,i'd do it but my i'm to damn cheap. i just
read them in the store and put them back on the shelf. I do my comic shopping
at Stormwatch Comics in West Berlin NJ. if you also go there don't tell
them i do it OK. Well it's turkey time again and i don't mean Thanksgiving. I mean it's election time. and a great book to read this time a year is You Can Lead a Politcian to water But Can't make him Think by Kinky Friedman. Kinky is a musician, author and Texas icon. his politcily un-correctness is his music, with songs like They Don't make Jews Like Jesus Anymore and Get Your Biscuts in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed. and hsi mystery novels which star himself as a modern day sherlock holmes and his real life friends as charecters in the books.Kinky, tired of the lies of both parties, ran for govener as a independent in Texas last year. he lost unfortuantly but his views and policies would have been good for his state and maybe some others in our country if they were adopted. This book tells of his run for office and is a great read both humorous and informative about texas politics. I recently went and seen 30 Days Of night in the theater and loved it. based on the comic book by Steve Nile and ben Templesmith( sorry i don't go for this graphic novel crap it's a comic book fer crying out loud) the movie and book are about the town of Barrow Alaska where teh sun sets and doesn't rise again for 30 days. Vampires go and make the town their personal buffett where local sherriff eben tries to save the few survivors. The movie is awsome but the comic is so much better Steve Niles is a great horror storyteller and if you don't belive me read the triolgy written by him, Dark Days, and Return to Barrow finish out the tale of the Alaskan town and residents. read all three volums they run about 20 dollars a piece for the collected versions. On Nov. 18th at the Big Appple Comic Con in new york city will hold a seminar by Jim Steranko. for 50 dollars you'll get not only the seminar but a free gift for attending. If you have never seen one of Jim seminar's then you have to try an make it they are very rare and may be one of his last that he is doing. for more information go to www.bigapplecon.com Also at thsi show will be comic legends Carmine Infantino and Dick Ayers two greats that are just great to talk to. Carmine will be selling his autobiography and the Vangaurd Publishing booth. If your lucky you maybe able for a extra fee get a book with a skecth by Carmine drain in it. Carmine doesn't do much skecths these days so it is great way to get not only a super book but have a piece of art by a true master. Our drink of the month is a RED APPLE.after Thanksgiving instead of cider try one of these nifty cocktails to wash down the turkey. 1 jigger of sour apple schnapps 1 jigger crown royal 1 jigger cranberry juice A jigger is 1.5 fluid ounces otherwise that tall skinny shot glass. Fill a shaker with ice and pour all three shots in it. shake well and pour in a tumbler on the rocks or a martini glass which ever you choose. Well i got to run i'll talk to you next month, if theres more you'd like to know about what i wrote or otehr drink recipes write me at askcaptfatman@yahoo.com |

Roger here and Roger there! But who the hell is Roger?
Roger has loved and collected comics his entire life. He started collecting original
comic art in the late 1980s and quickly fell in love with Paul's work when he saw originals from Master of
Kung Fu and Blood on Black Satin for the first time. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s he bought nearly
every page of Paul's art he could find and eventually put together a collection of several hundred pages,
ranging from Paul's first Marvel work in Fear through his most recent, perhaps the most comprehensive
collection of Paul's work in the world. |

Here's a few words from Paul :
| Que' pasa, amigos?
By some strange quirk of fate, I managed to finally sit down and actually write an update note to you fine folks. I've been getting many enquiring minds who want to know what happened to with Aquaman, Dr.Fate and Bad Guy Factory; all titles I've mentioned that i would be supposedly working on. Aquaman sank like an old anchor. My suggestion of re-vamping the book and giving him a new costume, etc., hit a brick wall in Atlantis… or was that Dan Didio's office door? Anyhoo, it didn't work out. I was really excited about Dr.Fate but there was a scheduling conflict on the monthly schedule and that flew the coop. Bad Guy Factory written by popular novelist Tad Wiliams, well... after much hoopla suddenly the axe came down on that so fast one day that the wind nearly caused Joey Cavalieri, Tad and me to tip over even after I submitted thirteen character designs. The upshot--I did get the check. I did my part. Que sera, sera, I guess. Well, the yellow brick wacky road of comics lead me back to Marvel and with many thanks to editors Warren Simons and Molly Lazer I landed a really exciting book which should pose a real fun challenge. This six-part mini series involves a fan favorite character named Penance. If you're into the Thunderbolts you know who and what I'm talking about. Paul Jenkins who writes like a mother@%@&$# will be doing the scripting. What he has so far, man, look out. I'm in the process of wrapping up the first twenty-two pages of issue #1. Here's a peek at the first cover brilliantly colored by Laurie Kronenberg. Pages coming on the site shortly, so, check in if you have the time, friends. Til next time... Cheers, Paul |

| What's up,people?
Okay.I've been getting a lot of contact from folks inquiring about Dr.Fate and if I'm going to be the artist on the book. The answer is no.The reason is actually quite simple.Frankly, the schedule of Squadron Supreme : Nighthawk vs Hyperion collided with the time D.C. planned on launching the first issue of Fate. Generally, publishers like a little elbow room on the schedule and a comfortable zone would be at least two books completed before the first issue hits the stands. We were nowhere near that, so therefore, sadly, I won't be doing the title. That's the bad news. The good news is that i was offered the opportunity to work with a very talented guy named Tad Williams. Tad is a hot commodity whose past work landed him on the New York Times Best Sellers List. Check out his site at www.tadwilliams.com The six part mini series we'll be working on is called Bad Guy Factory. You guessed it -- an underground organization that trains villains! Dig this -- characters and themes will be making their way into the D.C. universe. I read the outline and it is killer. More info coming soon. In the meantime, I want to say that I do regret not being on board for Fate. He's a great character. Steve Gerber is doing the scripting and I've been a fan of his work for a long time. However, editor Joey Cavalieri assured me that when the opportunity opens up, the door is open to jump back on board the series. That's good news because I had ideas. Man, did I have ideas. So, in the meanwhile, here is the the second cover for DR. Fate! Paul |

| Hola Compadres!
Happy 007 everyone! I know, I know. It's been forever. I hope everybody is doing well. The world is in turmoil but I believe if we all pull together as a team to find harmony and stability we must stay numb and drunk on Ipods, movies, video games, Myspace, Youtube, comics, junk food, plasma t.v.s, etc., we can get through this. We'll find a new way forward. Maybe not. I'm just saying, my friends. I have no answer, so, I'll leave it up to the New York Yankee great, Yogi Berra when he said -- "You gotta be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Anyhow, being locked into a four-part eighty-eight page mini series that I'm pencilling and inking doesn't allow me to feed the site as much as I would like. Part of the problem is I can't really show teaser pages from two, three and four if book one is not even on the stands yet. That's the dilemma. However, issue one of Squadron Supreme as I write this is in the shops and is selling at a pretty good clip. I got my copy by having the local comic shop here in Portland, Oregon hold a copy for me. Marvel sends freebies, but you never know when. So, as a result, I can give you a glimpse of some new sneak peak coming real soon of future issues. I can't say enough about what a pleasure it has been to work with Marvel editor Warren Simons and writer Marc Guggenheim. This has been experience on a special series. If you're down with the "movies on paper" concept, we're here to please. Great storyline, cool characters and crisp, solid dialogue. Awesome colors provided by John Rauch and Jason Keith and continuing in the quality mode of the Jonah Hex realm. Here is a glimpse of covers from issues two, three and four. More pages to follow as well soon. As you know, the covers are always out of the gate first when beginning a new story. A solid image is mandatory. Sometimes it takes more than one cover idea before the final product. Here are two cover sketches for issue one that got axed. While cranking away on Squadron, I've also been working simultaneously with Joey Cavalieri at D.C. Steve Gerber, Joey and myself brainstormed over a new look for Dr.Fate and these are takes of the creative process that lead to a final look. Dan Didio, Joey and Steve felt he needed an updated look. I went along for the ride. We're all happy with the result. A sleeker, simpler look with the helmet remaining the same. I put it in the hands of those guys in regards to a cover idea and everyone voted on wanting to go with a close-up helmet shot, so, this is our final cover design. Check it out. I'll be again be doing the pencilling and inking chores with good friend and inking pimp Jimmy Palmiotti in the wings if there is a schedule conflict. My plans have always been and remain that i stay a free agent. I have a solid relationship with both Marvel and D.C. and out of personal choice I'll remain available to both companies. Other News -- It's too early to let you know where I'll be making appearances this year but for the time being it's Granada, Spain in March and San Diego for sure. Any news on other locations, you'll hear it here first. Be good everyone and huge kudos to webmaster and friend, Matt. Peace, Paul |

| Hi again Matt & Paul Check out this cover to the TPB edition of Waterloo Sunset by Image Comics which was just released this month. It was done by British comic artist Trevor Goring. Do you think he was influenced by the work of Paul Gulacy? Man, this looks like a classic collage cover Gulacy style. (The book itself collects a 4 issue mini-series that was done by writer Andrew Stephenson with b&w art by Trevor Goring. It's about a futuristic London & earth during some bleak times & the challenges they face.) Dave |

Dave just sent me that :
| Hi Matt & Paul I picked up the Punisher TPB last week entitled "Punisher: Very Special Holidays" which includes a reprint of Paul's Punisher: Bloody Valentine One-Shot & what did I find...but that the first story in the TPB had Suspiria's 1st appearance. It was a one-shot called Punisher: Red X-Mas from 2004 which was also written by Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray. Art was by Mark Texeira. Anyway, it was fun reading to see where the Suspiria character had originally come from. The story was not quite as good as the Bloody Valentine story, but it was interesting. Texeira's art was also a bit stiff in spots. I thought you might be interested in this piece of information. Dave |

| Hola Compadres!
Hey, I recently got back from a great show down in Texas and that would be the Dallas Comic Con.Some of the guests included Steve Rude, James O'Barr, Ethan Van Sciver, Brian Stelfreeze, Mike Grell, Phil Noto and many, many more. I had the pleasure of presenting my pal Steve Rude with a Lifetime Achievement Award. How he got one ahead of me I don't know since I've been in the business longer that him. Just kidding. He deserves it, just look at his work. A big shout out goes to the con manager and host Mark Walters, his partners Ben Stevens, Philip Wise and Anita. I'd go back in a heartbeat. I have to clear the air on something .I know on this page that I've mentioned that I'll be doing the pencilling chores on Aquaman. Truth be told, that's not the truth. I had been graciously asked aboard by Dan Didio, but I felt I wasn't really cut out for the job. Primarily because I feel the character needed a re-vamp from top to bottom. D.C. prefers to keep things the way they are and I respect that. As a result, through negotiations with Dan and editorJoey Cavalieri, my next assignment will be the artist on Dr. Fate with Steve Gerber doing the writing. I'm amped about this one. It could be very cool if we pull it off the way we're visualizing it. Jimmy Palmiotti and I will handle the inks. Last month in Portland, Oregon where I live, writer Andy Mangels put together a wonderful fund raising auction event for a very important cause. You can read all about it here and be sure to check out the awesome contributing talent. If you're a fan of Wonder Woman, you'll be in heaven. | Hi Matt I e-mailed Paul the other day to ask about JSA Classified # 13 which listed both him and Jimmy (Palmiotti) as doing the inking. He reported that it was true and that he inked the last 7 pages. Those pages were #'s 16-22. Check it out. Apparently, Jimmy was juggling several other projects at the time & Paul was asked to ink those pages. Just a piece of trivia. Paul was also very pleased with how Jonah Hex #12 came out & he indicated that he really enjoying inking that story (as well as penciling it, of course). Dave |

Holly Crap, Batman! To anybody and everybody who may be interested in a very cool film about two hot sisters who race cars and through a series of events get involved in the dangerous game of global espionage. Response has been good and I'll follow up with more news shortly because right now, I don't want to jinx things. There is also interest in two other comic series I've done, S.C.I.S.P.Y. and Six From Sirius being transferred to serialized mini movies on cell phone devices. The next huge wave of entertainment I'm told. Lots of folks are always after me to do commission work but unfortunately my plate is full and I rarely get to do as many as I like, but, here is a little glimpse of work I've done for collectors along the way. It doesn't hurt to give me a holler and if it's a business deal worth my while, we'll try and work something out. There is a good chance that as I'm writing this, my issue of Jonah Hex #12 will be out in the shops along with Rough Stuff #2 that contains a huge interview along with tons of art, some never before published. Currently I'm wrapping up the first issue of Squadron Supreme. A 4-part mini series for Marvel written by Marc Guggenheim. This story involves a kick ass battle between Nighthawk and Hyperion. Here's a look, homies. Some of you may recognize Marc's name as scriptwriter on such television programs as CSI: Miami and Law and Order. It's a kick working with this guy fo sho. By some strange quirk of fate, before I could lift the phone to call my Marvel editor, I received a call from D. C. with an offer to be the monthly penciller on Aquaman. As I sit here, at the moment, it looks like that's the plan. I'm looking forward to it. Before I head off into the sunset, it would only be fitting to show you photo of Biker Matt's new honey. Her name is Anne-Sophie. Talk again soon. . ERRRRR. . . I mean SOONER. Paul. |

A few days ago, I got this mail from Mike Coty :
I don't know if I discovered an unknown
Gulacy work or not. I was hoping that you could verify it. I recently was looking through issue # 62 of Amazing Heroes. This was the 1985 Preview Issue dated Jan. 1, 1985 and it lists works that are going to be released. Under Black Diamond it describes a Graphic Novel published by Americomics titled From Brazil With Vengeance: A Black Diamond Graphic Novelette. It is described as 52 pages;b+w; with a $3.25 cover price and a cover by Paul Gulacy. The cover art is shown and it has Black Diamond pointing a handgun at the viewer and in back of her is a large swastika. Do you know if this graphic novel was ever produced? |
So, of course I ask Mr. number one fan of Paul Gulacy, the incredible, the amazing, the guy who knows everything about Paul's work : Dave "Thebest" Lemieux. Here's his answer to Mike's question :
Hi Mike & Matt. That Black Diamond Graphic Novelette was never published. There is a color ad for the cover (by Paul) in the back of Black Diamond # 5 from 1984 indicating that the graphic novelette would be out in 1985. Unfortunately, it never happened. That's a good find, you made though, Mike. I also found something interesting in Amazing Heroes # 95 dated May 15, 1986. There is a preview listing of upcoming comics under Lodestone Comics for Code Name: Danger # 5 which had a story titled "Snow Job" with a cover by Paul Gulacy. No picture of the cover, however. The description was "A take-off on Miami Vice, among other things." The price would have been $1.50. Story was by Robert Loren Fleming with art by Jerry Ordway. Lodestone comics went out of business & this comic was never published. Too bad. |

A message from Paul :
| Hello
everyone, Wow! Here we are with 2005 coming to a rapid close. Another year with more wackiness occurring in the world. There are plenty of sites and blogs that deal with those issues but this is a pop culture site, so, we'll keep it there. I think I was up in the air more than down on earth this year. A whole lot of travelling. One of my favorite stops was the Big Apple Con in New York City early this year. Of all the fans I've met, the New York fans are the one's who keep it real. They're the best. Mike Carbonnaro throws a great show. At the San Diego Comicon we promoted the "Art Of." book to a host of eager fans. "We" being the Vanguard Publishing display booth. In late June, my family received the bad news that my father was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away on July 4th. My mother who suffers from Alzheimers Disease now resides in a nursing home. Not the best time to crank out a Tom Strong comic. I've got the loving, personal memories and it's all good. Almost. It's part of life and life goes on. The "Art Of" book was finally premiered at the DragonCon in Atlanta. If you've never seen this, you gotta get there. 20,000 people dressed in up in fantasy costumes. Some just wearing paint! It was loads of fun. Pat Henry, who hosts the show, deserves a standing ovation. As huge as DragonCon is, it still has the flavor of a convention unlike San Diego which feels more corporate. Not that that's a bad thing, just two different venues. The Vanguard room included Howard Chaykin, Frank Brunner, David Spurlock, Art Suydam, Rene Witterstaetter, Tim Bradstreet, Basil Gogos and myself. Two weeks ago I hosted a guest who dropped in to hang out and that would be our favorite webmaster--Matt Bortolin. He flew in from Paris to visit relatives in Montreal. Being so close, well, maybe not that close, Matt jumped on a bird and came to Portland. We had a good time. Matt's a swell guy. One of the highlights was taking Matt to see Howard Hughes' awesome airplane--the Spruce Goose which resides now in an aviation museum in nearby McMinnville, Oregon. Hey, if you missed the Batman/Ra's Al Ghul series that ran earlier this year you're in luck. D.C. will print it as a trade paperback very soon. Tom Strong #34 may still be on the stands. Check your local comic shops. Also, I recently completed a 20 page Escapist story for Dark Horse featuring a Sabre-like character as the Escapist in a spin on the 60's black films where even Pam Grier makes an appearance! This story is written by author and filmmaker--Gary Phillips. My next gig takes me back to a place where it all started for me--Marvel. That would be a 34 page Punisher story written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. This book is scheduled to tie in with Valentines Day. Jimmy and I wrap that up and bounce back to D. C. for a 5 part JLA series. That's it for now, folks. Thanks for dropping in and we'll try to keep you posted on any news. In regards to conventions, I'll be appearing in Detroit in March with Jim Steranko and at another show in Dayton, Ohio in April. More info on these to come. Till next time --- Take care, Paul. |
09/23/05
No the site is not down. I have just too much work at my pay-job. Anyway, I will be far far from my computer the next two weeks. I'm going to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. And from there I will go to the States to pay a visit to Paul. I hope to be back with a ton of cool stuff.

Here's a teaser to Paul's new mini series
|
For nearly six hundred
years, Ra's al Ghul, the Demon's Head, both exploited and protected the secret
of immortality. For nearly six hundred years, he was his own reincarnation,
weaving in and out of ventures, identities, even history itself. Once
a talented physician serving the Arabian ruling class, Ra's eventually
came to perceive Planet Earth as his foremost patient and humanity as
the virus threatening her health and very existence. And for the last
decade, he fought to either win to his cause or destroy Gotham's Dark
Knight detective, in the process emerging as one of Batman's deadliest
foes.
Now Ra's al Ghul is dead, his Lazarus Pits destroyed, his legacy in ruins. Beyond the grave, his death has triggered a global catastrophe worse than anything the Demon's Head ever unleashed in life. First, Batman must race against time to stop the nightmare rampage of the living dead now prowling Gotham's streets. |

Remember, the original cover to Nexus Magazine # 1 was done by Paul Gulacy. In an e-mail to me, the editor Michael Eury, indicated that he plans to include the Gulacy version of the cover inside the magazine, as well, so that fans would be able to compare the differences. Here are some news about an ilo Paul did for a portfolio on "Spiderman 2 : the movie" :
| I did some research. The Spiderman 2 Comic Book
Artists Portfolio is an exclusive limited edition that is supposedly only
available when you purchase the Spiderman 2 DVD 2 gift pack. It includes
25 artists (including Paul) who each did a drawing of Spiderman especially
for this new portfolio. So, apparently it was published in 2004. Amazon.com
lists this item at $37.95 which includes the DVD, portfolio & a comic.
It is scheduled for a November release. The portfolio reportedly measures
7" x 5". That's what I know. Dave |

Here's a mail that Dave sent me yesterday :
| ....I wanted to enclose a scan of the latest Gulacy cover for a children's HC book called Batman's Guide to Crime & Detection. It was just published in 2003 by DK Publishing Inc. in New York. The cover for this book was taken from the 1st panel on Page 10 of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight # 137 (the Batman: Terror storyline). The DC artists whose (previously published) Batman artwork was used in this book were thanked (for the use of their work) inside the book. Unfortunately, they overlooked giving Paul credit for the cover. An oversight I'm sure. Anyway, we all recognize the work. And it looks quite nice! |
Here's a third page from the 25th issue of Catwoman.

Dave just sent me an e-mail with a good news for all Gulacy's fans :
| Big news! In the latest issue of the Comic Buyer's Guide (#1550 dated 8/1/03), Paul was ranked in the Top 10 for "favorite artist" by comic fans, as part of the CBG Fan Awards for 2003. Paul was even voted ahead of John Byrne who was # 15. George Perez was # 1, Jim Lee was # 3, John Romita Jr. was # 4, Alan Davis was # 6 , Joseph Michael Linsner was # 7 and Paul Gulacy was # 10. Can you believe it?! Awesome. Paul's back in the spotlight again. This is quite an accomplishment considering all of the talented artists that are around these days. Most likely, his work on the MOKF Max series and Reload helped bring him back to the attention of many fans, both new and old. |
Another mail by Dave :
| Just to let you know, the Jack Kirby Collector # 38 (tabloid size) included some brief comments by Paul about Kirby's influence on comics, a reference to one of Paul's favorite Kirby comic storylines (involving Captain America) and a new drawing of Nick Fury by Paul (a headshot only). It covered about a third of a page & was titled The Paul Gulacy Perspective. I was actually hoping that it would have been a several page interview, but what can you do. It also featured comments by Steve Rude, Roy Thomas & Steve Englehart on Kirby. |

Ok, the problem with Dave is that this guy knows EVERYTHING about Paul's work. So I told you that the artwork linked below was an unpublished one! Big mistake

In fact it has been used as the cover to "The Southern Squadron: Freedom of Information Act #4" in April of 1992 by Eternity Comics.

Here are some words by Paul :
Hello everyone, It's come to my attention that it's been way too long since I got in here and said anything. Just simply been very busy and on top of that I've moved into a new residence. The same goes for Matt on the other side of the Atlantic. On top of that, his clunky computer hasn’t been much help. [ha ha]. So, without further delay I want to say a few words about the Mallorca Con I attended a few weeks back before too much time goes by. This has been my third invitation to Spain and every visit has been a fun, exciting and rewarding experience. The Spanish people are the best. They have a true committed and supportive high regard for the comic book art form that I’ve yet to see anywhere else. I want to again extend my gratitude to Jaume Vaquer who hosted and coordinated the week long celebration. He and his committee put on a great show and everyone had a marvellous time. I got to see my old pal Jim Starlin after twenty years or so and meet his girlfriend, the lovely Sunni. Also on hand was Darick"El Toro" Robinson with his wonderful wife and young son. All the cool Spanish artists were there and the final night was a huge party with yours truly being dragged out of my chair to do my Frank Sinatra impression. It was all good. Espana es el Bomb. 'nuff said. As I write this, Warren Ellis, Jimmy Palmiotti and myself wrap up the third issue of Reload. The response so far: everybody is digging it. Truth of the matter--with a script like Warren's, you can't go wrong. Next up---CATWOMAN. The monthly book. Dan Dideo at D.C. said he wanted that Reload team on the series and he got it. I’m dying to do this character and work with Ed Brubaker and Jimmy again, y'all.Sexy Selina, martial arts, Gotham, Robert Mitchum, freaky villains... Whoa... As always, stay tuned folks and stay well. Peace, PG |
05/25/03

Here's a mail Dave sent me some few days ago :
Hi Matt! In the latest issue of the Comics Buyer's Guide (# 1484) dated 4/26/02, Andrew Smith (one of their regular columnists) rated the Doug Moench and Paul Gulacy MOKF issues between # 18 - 51 as being one of the Top 20 greatest comics runs of all time. I'd have to agree! This was based on reader response to CBG along with his own input. Other series that made the cut included the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams issues of Green Lantern/Green Arrow # 76 -89 ,the Englehart/Rogers issues of Detective Comics # 469-479 , Frank Miller's Daredevil issues # 158-191 and the classic Chris Claremont/John Byrne issues of X-Men # 108-143. That's some good company! By the way, the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby issues of the Fantastic Four were also in the list...of course! Dave |
04/04/02
S;C.Y. Spy issue #3 is out today!
03/26/02
Here's a cool oil painting! Enjoy!
03/15/02
The second issue of S.C.Y. Spy
is out since last week.... Oups, I'm late.
By the way, it's been a long time that Bob send me a scan of the original cover to "Eternal Warrior" issue #40. Take a look here.
And finally, let's read what Dave send me about MOKF :
On March 2nd, 2002, Jimmy Palmiotti reported that the new MOKF series will be 6 issues. He also reported that he had just received the first batch of pages to be inked for the series. Then, on March 4th, 2002, Paul Gulacy reported that an MOKF Essential TPB (reprinting of the old classic MOKF issues in black & white) appeared unlikely, due to legal issues involving the Sax Rohmer estate which has the rights to the Fu Manchu character. Paul also reported that he wouldn't mind a continued run on a regular schedule of MOKF, following the limited series, if the sales figures supported it. |
02/20/02
Here's a painting I think you have never seen before!
02/13/02
Well I'm late again. Let me tell you that when you begin to play
at "Unreal Tournament" online, it's hard to log off... ![]()
So, since you all bought it already last week, the first issue of "S.C.I. Spy" is out.
Gustavo and Jan sent me some cool info to fix some mistakes on the different lists of Paul's work. As soon as I kick my butt myself, and stop playing online, I will work on this info!
Well... I just find this cover ready to be displayed on the site... Thanks Gustavo, for sending it to me.
And finally, I just fixed some mistakes and add some new stuff to the List Part 2 and List Part 3, thanks to Jen from Danemark for helping me out!
02/06/02
All right! Listen to this : Paul has finished to work on "S.C.I. Spy", and will begin to work on "Master of Kung Fu" in ten days or so...
And I would like to say that I'm eager to be tomorrow, 'cause in France we usualy get our comics on thursday. The shop open at 10h30, so I still have to wait... 10 hours, 39 minutes and 45 seconds before I can buy the first issue of "S.C.I. Spy"! :)
01/24/02
And now take a look at the original painting of the "Terminator : Secondary Objectives" TPB. You'll see that the actual cover is darker and as not the same visual power than the painting.
01/22/02
I don't know if you remember that, a fight between Shang Shi and guess who?... :)
01/18/02
Some words by Paul, here! Some photos too!
01/10/02
Here comes Dave again :
In the latest Diamond Previews book, Paul is listed
as one of the contributors for the non-profit September 11 Volume 2 comic
due out in February 2001. All profits will benefit the victims of the
9/11 attacks. Gulacy will apparently contribute at least a 1 page illustration
(and perhaps more). Please note that there are 2 volumes of this softcover
book, and that Paul's work will be included in Volume 2. Let's spread
the word for this good cause. |
The word has been spread! :) Thanks Dave.
01/06/02
Here what Dave read in the issue #1468 of the "Comic Buyer's Guide" ( dated 1/4/02) :
S.C.I. -Spy #1
DC/Vertigo, $2.50,color, 32 pgs Doug Moench and Paul
Gulacy take international intrigue to an interstellar setting in this
six-issue mini-series. Sebastian Starchild is a secret agent sent to the
Arcturus system as part os Special Covert Investigation (S.C.I.) to stop
the threat of a system wide-war.
Bennet : It's been entirely too long since Moench and Gulacy last produced their distinctive brand of razor-edged science fiction (Six From Sirius). Without losing a step or missing a beat, they're back with a juicy pupl romp that has everything we'd expect from them, except the inevitable sexy femme fatale with the sprayed-on spacesuit. Here's hoping there's one coming. Grade : B. Biggers : If ever there are txo creators menat to work together ; it's Moench and Gulacy. Sure, each of them can do entertaining work ithout the other - but the gestalt is like magic. This SF-espionnage series with pulp overtones is sheer fun from the first page. Can't wait to read the rest of the series. Gulacy seems to be cutting loose a bit more than usual on the art ; it's obvious that he's having fun and it's contagious. Grade A. Shorr : you know, these two guys don't get nearly the recognition they should, but Moench and Gulacy have been teaming up for oustanding comic book for decades now. Six From Sirius, Sabre, Slash Maraud, and many more that don't start with the letter ¨S¨ : Seek them out ! This is another excellent addition to the pantheon, with Gulacy's trademark look and Moench's classic dry and witty dialogue. I'm certainly looking forward to being able to read one in person. Grade : A. Mateer :Let's welcome back Moench-Gulacy team, as comfortable by now as an old '70s T-shirt (the one you only get out of the closet occasionally now, afraid you'll wear it ou)t. Clever wordplay, science-fiction spy action, op-art panels to indicate computer/communication effects - hey, it may be retro, but it still looks good, even to newer audiences who've never seen it before, and it's still a lot of fun. Grade : B+. |
And some changes have been made in the List Part 3, thanks Gustavo, and in the List Part 4 a new table has been added : Germany! Thanks Ben.
01/04/02
Back to work, and here what Dave sent me awhile ago :
In the latest issue of the Comic Buyer's Guide (#1468-
dated 1/4/02), the 1st issue of Sci-Spy was reviewed by 5 comicbook retailers
and given very good marks. Cliff Biggers stated, "Gulacy seems to be cutting
loose a bit more than usual on the art; it's obvious that he's having
fun and it's contagious." Grade: A. |
And Gustavo, don't worry I didn't lost your mail. I will work on it soon...
01/01/02
Happy new year!
12/18/01
And here is the second cover of "Six From Sirius".
12/16/01
I scan anew the cover of the first issue of "Six From Sirius", here.
And thanks to Dave you can take a look at this cool scan, it's a pin-up of Hugo Strange from "Who's Who in the DC Universe" #9 from 1991.
12/13/01
And now read what the last "Previews" says about SCI-Spy , and take a look at what it seems to be the final colored copy of the first cover :
Sebastian Starchild. like alI great
secret agents, is a stubborn lone wolf with a penchant for the ladies
and a knack for saving the world - or in his case, the universe. He's
got a flashy ray gun, a floating cyber sidekick, and a galaxy-hopping
starship. In short. he's a new kind of secret agent for a new era of comics
readers. S.C.I.-SPY is a 6-issue, genre-bending VERTIGO miniseries brought to you by the team behind BATMAN : OUTLAWS and GREEN LANTERN : DRAGON LORD - writer Doug Moench and penciller Paul Gulacy - who are joined by inker Jimmy Palmiotti (The Punisher). S.C.I.-SPY combines fast-paced sci-fi action, political intrigue, sexy twists, and just a dash of tongue-in-cheek humor. After the destruction of Earth. humans were forced to travel the galaxy in search of new star systems to terraform and colonize. Millions of light-years away. the Arcturus system is a planetary cluster of awesome magnitude ideologically split between the inner world inhabited by cyberneticalty enhanced "beautiful" people and outer worlds rife with crime and searching for autonomy and respect. This interplanetary Cold War has had its minor conflicts and espionage for years. but recent activities have escalated into outright acts of sabotage, piracy and terrorism. Motherbank, the disembodied, all-powerfulleader of the inner worlds - and head of their intelligence agency, Special Covert Investigations (S.C.I.) - directs her best agent, Sebastian Starchild, to deal with the threat before a full-scale war erupts. Aided (under protest) by sexy and deadly super-spy Isis Nile and by his own trusty cybernetic sidekick, Orb, Starchild is off to battle space pirates, stop a legion of world-eating hungerbugs, and uncover an intergalactic mystery. It's a mystery so deep and dark that it threatens not only to destroy the placid utopias of the inner worlds, but also to solve Starchild's own unsuspected origin and reveal the shocking truth about Earth's actual fate. This project is supported with house and trade ads S.C.I.-SPY is a 6-issue VERTIGO miniseries edited by Will Dennis and is suggested for mature readers. The 32-page issue #1 arrives in comic-book stores February 6 with a cover price of $2.50 U.S. |
12/08/01

Hi guys! Paul just sent me some cool stuff from Portland. I will post some of it tomorrow on the site. Did I say cool stuff? No Fresh, grear, awesome art, yes!
06/14/01
Dear Daniel! Mon ami, instead of telling me that I typed "06/16/01" at the end of the page linked below (we're only the 06/14/01), you should have told me that I typed "thans" below and not "thanks"! Just kidding, Daniel.
In fact I would like to thanks everyone who helped and will help me improving this site. So if you see a problem, any kind of problem, e-mail me here!
06/13/01

06/12/01
Here's the cover to the issue #147 of "Rawhide Kid". Thanks Gustavo.
06/11/01
Here comes Dave again :
Guess what I just recently discovered....about
2 months ago , DC Vertigo Comics published Weird Western Tales # 2 which
featured a 10 page story by Paul called Palomino. Paul also did his own
inking. The writer was someone named Darko Macan & it's a pretty good
story. The book listed a May 2001 cover date. How did we miss this one???
(It's not the same western story that Paul did for Flinch.) Let's spread
the word on this one. |
06/11/01
Here's the pic Gustavo sent me a couple of days ago.
06/06/01
Look at what Jim says about the news below : "Oh, please God, PLEASE let it happen!". I totally agree! :)
06/06/01
Here a mail Dave sent me yesterday!
A short article appeared in this week's
Comic Buyer's Guide # 1439 (dated 6/15/01) which talked about Paul &
Doug's return to MOKF. Marvel editor Axel Alonzo said that the series
will last 6 to 8 issues. Paul was quoted in the article several times.
The article also indicated that Paul & Doug's Sci-Spy series for Vertigo
comics would be 6 issues. Axel said he has spoken at length with both
Doug & Paul regarding the Shang Chi series, and that he will soon speak
with Doug to review the possible storyline for the series. |
06/03/01
And there is a cool scan of an uninked page from "Outlaws"! Thanks Gustavo.
06/01/01
Did I talk to you about Dave? Yeah well check this to see what he sent me! The scan is mine and it's better done that the pic I picked up from the 'Net some time ago. Yeah thanks Dave!
05/22/01
And now some few words from the man himself, Paul gulacy :
We just wrapped up Dragonlord last
week and now we're embarking on the science fiction series called Sci-Spy.
Before I get into that, I'd like to mention that the response to Dragonlord
has been mixed. Anyone who is disappointed has a good reason to be even
though it's selling briskly. It seems that another writer/artist team
that preceded us could'nt adhere to their deadline. As a result, our
series was bumped up to fill that gap. This put emormous pressure on
all of us to get it done on time. Joe Rubentsein was the assigned inker,
it was out of my hands. We all did the best we could under the circumstances. With that said, I still feel it's a solid story. Bear in mind these things do occur at times in the world of publishing. Now on to our creater-owned series for Vertigo. I dreamed this up over a year ago and I think you'll like it if you can picture James Bond meeting Star Wars. Sebastion Starchild is the greatest secret agent in the galaxy and his latest assignment has him crossing paths with some of the strangest and deadliest freaks in outer space. Bizarre assassins, gorgeous alien women, thrilling chases and even a black hole thrown in for good measure. Check it and get lost in space this fall. After that, it's over to Marvel to work on, yep,the return of Master of Kung Fu. Pass the No Doz, somebody ! |
